Coorg is one of the best weekend trips you can do from Bangalore. It is about 250 km away, tucked in the Western Ghats, and surrounded by coffee and spice plantations, thick forests, and cool air. Most people from Bangalore drive up on a Friday evening or Saturday morning and are back by Sunday night. This 2-day, 1-night Coorg Tour is built around exactly that rhythm.
On the first day, you drive from Bangalore to Madikeri, the main town in Coorg. After checking in and having lunch, you visit Abbey Falls, Madikeri Fort, the Omkareshwara Temple, and Raja Seat, a hilltop garden where you can catch the sunset over the valley.
Day two starts early. You head to the Dubare Elephant Camp on the banks of the Cauvery River, where elephants are brought every morning for their bath and feeding. Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Bangalore to Coorg (Madikeri)
Your cab departs from Bangalore between 6 and 7 AM. The route goes via Mysore Road, passes through Mysore (you do not stop here on this tour), and then climbs into the hills as you approach Madikeri. The last stretch through the ghats is one of the most scenic parts of the drive.
You reach Coorg by early afternoon. After checking in to your resort and having lunch (at your own cost), you rest briefly before heading out.
Abbey Falls is your first stop, about 7 km from Madikeri town. The falls drop roughly 70 feet and are surrounded by thick trees and a small coffee estate. There is a short walk from the parking area down to the viewpoint. Entry fees apply and are paid directly at the site.
Next is Madikeri Fort, right in the heart of the town. The fort was originally built in mud by the Kodagu kings in the 17th century and later rebuilt in stone by Tipu Sultan. Inside you will find a small museum, two temple structures, and a church. The walls give good views over the Madikeri valley.
Just beside the fort is the Omkareshwara Temple, built in 1820. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is visually unusual because it mixes Kodagu architectural elements with Islamic domes and Gothic arches. The temple tank adds to the calm atmosphere around the place.
The evening ends at Raja Seat, a garden complex on top of a hill at the edge of Madikeri town. This is where the Coorg kings used to sit and watch sunsets. Today it is a popular viewpoint with well-maintained gardens, a small fountain, and good views over the surrounding valleys and coffee hills. It is best visited just before sunset.

Day 2: Coorg Sightseeing and Return to Bangalore
After an early breakfast and checkout, you head out for the day’s sightseeing. An early start works better here because Dubare is best visited in the morning.
Dubare Elephant Camp is about 35 km from Madikeri, on the banks of the Cauvery River near Kushalnagar. The Karnataka Forest Department brings the trained elephants here every morning for their daily routine of bathing and feeding. You can watch the mahouts work with the elephants from the riverbank. Activities like elephant interaction, riding, and feeding are available at extra charges paid directly at the camp. Timings for the main bathing session are usually between 8 and 10 AM, so reaching early matters.
A short distance from Dubare is Cauvery Nisargadhama, a small forested island in the Cauvery River. You cross into the island on a bamboo rope bridge. Inside, there are spotted deer, peacocks, a small elephant ride area, bamboo groves, and basic boating. It is a peaceful, low-key place that works well as a short break between stops. Entry is ticketed and paid directly at the gate.
Your last stop is Bylakuppe, about 15 km from Kushalnagar. This is the largest Tibetan refugee settlement in India, set up in 1961 after the Tibetan exodus. The main attraction is the Namdroling Monastery, also called the Golden Temple. The main prayer hall has three enormous golden statues of the Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava, with detailed painted murals covering the walls. The atmosphere inside is very different from typical Indian temples and most visitors find it memorable. Entry to the monastery is free. Indian nationals do not need a permit; foreign tourists require an inner line permit.
After lunch at Kushalnagar, your cab heads back to Bangalore. You arrive in the evening.
