Tour Overview
The Kanha and Bandhavgarh Tour from Jabalpur – 4 Days is a private wildlife tour for travellers who want to visit two of Madhya Pradesh’s well-known tiger reserves in one short itinerary. The tour starts and ends in Jabalpur and includes private road travel, wildlife safaris, comfortable accommodation and time to explore the forest landscapes of Kanha and Bandhavgarh.
Kanha is known for its sal forest, open meadows, bamboo groves and varied wildlife. Bandhavgarh has a different character, with forested hills, rocky ground and the remains of an old fort above the reserve. Both destinations offer the chance to see Bengal tigers, but no safari can guarantee a tiger sighting.
This is an active itinerary because the two reserves are separated by a long road journey. It is best for travellers who have limited time and want to experience both parks. If you prefer a slower trip with more safari drives, add one or two extra nights.
The tour can be arranged for couples, families, photographers and small groups. Safari zones, vehicle types, reporting times and permits depend on the official forest booking system and availability on the selected dates.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Jabalpur to Bandhavgarh
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel, airport or railway station in Jabalpur at the agreed time. The journey to Bandhavgarh takes several hours and may vary according to traffic, road conditions and stops.
The route moves through the countryside of Madhya Pradesh, with farmland, villages and forest areas along the way. A private vehicle gives you flexibility to stop for breakfast, tea or lunch during the journey. If you are travelling with children or older family members, the itinerary can include additional rest breaks.
On arrival, check in at your selected hotel, lodge or wildlife resort near Bandhavgarh. Your accommodation location is important because safari reporting times can be early, and a property closer to the selected gate may make the morning easier.
If you arrive early enough and a safari permit is available, you may request an afternoon safari on the first day. The final safari shift, zone and vehicle depend on the official booking system. If a safari is not possible, use the afternoon to rest and prepare for the next morning.
Bandhavgarh is known for forested hills, meadows and wildlife habitat. You may see chital, sambar, wild boar, langurs, peafowl and many birds during a drive. A tiger sighting is possible, but it cannot be promised.
Overnight: Bandhavgarh.
Meals: Breakfast if included in the selected accommodation plan.
Day 2: Bandhavgarh safari and transfer to Kanha
Start early for a morning safari if it is included in your permit. The reporting time changes with the season and will be confirmed with the safari details. Carry the original identity document used for the booking.
Bandhavgarh safari routes pass through forest, grassland and hilly areas. Follow the instructions of the driver and naturalist. Keep your voice low, remain inside the vehicle and do not ask the driver to leave the permitted route.
A safari is about more than tiger sightings. You may see deer moving through open meadows, langurs calling from trees, peafowl near the track or birds around water. The forest can feel quiet for long periods, followed by a sudden animal movement. Patience is part of the experience.
Return to the lodge after the safari for breakfast and check out. Begin the road journey towards Kanha after a short rest. The transfer between Bandhavgarh and Kanha is long, so carry water and keep the day flexible. You can stop for lunch and refreshments during the route.
The landscape changes as you travel towards Kanha. Forest areas, farms and rural settlements appear along the road. Arrival time depends on the route, road conditions and stops. After reaching Kanha, check in at your accommodation near the selected gate.
Spend the evening resting. Avoid planning a demanding activity after the long transfer. Your safari coordinator will confirm the next day’s reporting time.
Overnight: Kanha.
Meals: Breakfast if included in the accommodation plan.
Day 3: Kanha morning and afternoon safari options
Kanha is known for sal forests, bamboo, meadows and a range of wildlife habitats. The reserve includes several tourism zones, and the available zone depends on the permit. Kanha Tourism states that the park includes zones such as Kisli, Mukki, Kanha and Sarhi, while core-zone access can change during the monsoon period.
Leave early for a morning safari if included. The road inside the reserve may be uneven, and the vehicle can be exposed to dust and changing temperatures. Wear comfortable clothes and carry a warm layer during the cooler months.
Kanha supports Bengal tigers, leopards, barasingha, sambar, chital, gaur, wild dogs, langurs and many bird species. The sighting of any animal depends on movement, weather, forest conditions and chance. Your driver and naturalist will explain signs such as alarm calls, tracks and movement in the grass.
Return to the lodge for breakfast and rest. The afternoon is free for lunch, relaxation and photography around the property where permitted. Avoid making loud noise or playing music near forest areas.
Take an afternoon safari if you have booked a second Kanha drive. Morning and afternoon safaris offer different light and weather conditions. The final reporting time changes during the season and must be checked on the permit.
Return to the lodge after the safari. Use the evening to review photographs and prepare for the following day’s return journey.
Overnight: Kanha.
Meals: Breakfast if included in the accommodation plan.
Day 4: Kanha to Jabalpur Drop
After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey to Jabalpur. The drive takes several hours and depends on the route, traffic, weather and stops.
You can stop for lunch or refreshments on the way. If you have a flight or train from Jabalpur, leave enough time between the expected arrival and departure. Road travel in forest and rural areas can take longer than the estimated duration.
The tour ends at your hotel, airport or railway station in Jabalpur. Travellers who want to continue their India holiday can request an onward transfer to another destination, subject to the route and available time.
Meals: Breakfast if included in the hotel plan.
Safari options
Jeep safari
A jeep safari uses an open 4×4 vehicle and is generally suitable for couples, families and small groups. It offers a smaller vehicle setting and can be useful for photographers. Availability, seating and the allocated zone depend on the official permit system.
Canter safari
A canter is a larger open safari vehicle used for shared drives. It can be practical for larger groups or travellers looking for a lower-cost option. A canter does not guarantee a particular zone or a tiger sighting.
How many safaris should you book?
This 4-day tour can include one safari in Bandhavgarh and two in Kanha. Travellers who mainly want wildlife photography should add more nights. Two or three drives provide an introduction, but additional drives give you more time to understand the forest.

FAQs
Q 1. Where should I go first from Jabalpur?
Bandhavgarh can be visited first, followed by Kanha, before returning to Jabalpur. The order can be changed if safari permits and hotel availability make another route more suitable.
Q 2. Is a tiger sighting guaranteed?
The road journey generally takes around three to four hours, depending on the lodge location, route, traffic and stops.
Q 3. How many safaris are included?
The suggested plan includes one Bandhavgarh safari and two Kanha safari opportunities if these are selected in the final quotation. Additional safaris can be added by extending the trip.
Q 4. Is a jeep better than a canter?
A jeep may suit couples and small groups who prefer a smaller vehicle. A canter can be practical for larger groups or travellers seeking a shared option. Availability depends on the official booking system.
Q 5. What is the best time to visit Kanha and Bandhavgarh?
The main tourism season is generally from October to June, subject to current forest department dates. October to March is comfortable, while April to June can be hotter but may offer dry-season wildlife viewing.
Q 6. Can I start and end this tour at Jabalpur airport?
Yes. Pickup and drop-off can be arranged at Jabalpur airport, railway station or hotel, subject to the agreed itinerary.
Q 7. Can I add Pench or another tiger reserve?
Yes, but the tour should be extended. Adding another park to four days would create long transfers and limited safari time.
