Tour Overview
Jawai Leopard Safari from Udaipur is a peaceful 3-day private wildlife tour through the rocky hills and open countryside of Rajasthan. The itinerary includes private car travel from Udaipur to Jawai, two nights at a selected lodge or camp, guided leopard safari drives and an optional stop at Ranakpur Jain Temple.
Jawai is known for its granite hills, dry scrub, reservoir and village landscape. Leopards live among this natural terrain and may sometimes be seen resting on rocky slopes or moving near caves. The area is different from a conventional national park because wildlife shares the landscape with local villages, pastoral communities and livestock.
A leopard sighting is possible, but it is never guaranteed. The safari is planned around the conditions of the day, local access and current wildlife rules. Along with leopards, visitors may see crocodiles, peafowl, langurs, chinkara, eagles, owls and waterbirds.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Udaipur to Jawai
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel, airport or railway station in Udaipur at the agreed time. The drive to Jawai generally takes around three to four hours, although the actual time depends on the lodge location, traffic, road conditions and stops.
The route moves from Udaipur’s lake region towards the open countryside of the Pali area. You will pass farms, villages, low hills and grazing land on the way. A short stop for tea, breakfast or refreshments can be arranged during the journey.
Optional Ranakpur visit
Ranakpur Jain Temple can be added as a route-based stop between Udaipur and Jawai. The temple is known for its marble architecture and detailed carvings. The stop adds time to the journey, so it should be planned around your lodge check-in and safari schedule.
Entry rules, visitor timings and photography conditions may change. Confirm the details before travelling and dress respectfully at religious sites.
Continue to your selected Jawai accommodation after the visit. Depending on your budget, you can choose a simple hotel, comfortable wildlife lodge or tented camp. A property near the safari meeting point is useful for early morning drives.
After check-in, rest at the property. If you arrive early and local conditions allow, you may take an evening leopard safari. The final departure time, vehicle and route depend on daylight, local availability and current regulations.
If an evening safari is not available, enjoy a quiet evening at the lodge and prepare for the next morning’s drive.
Overnight: Jawai.
Meals: Breakfast if included in the selected accommodation plan.
Day 2: Jawai leopard safari and free time
Start early for a guided morning leopard safari. The departure time changes during the year and will be confirmed by the lodge or local safari coordinator.
The safari usually takes place in an open vehicle with a local driver and guide. The route may pass through rocky hills, scrubland, village tracks, grazing areas and the surroundings of Jawai Bandh reservoir. Unlike a fixed national park route, the safari path may change according to wildlife movement, access and road conditions.
Your guide will look for signs of leopard activity and suitable viewpoints. A leopard may be visible on a rocky hill, near a cave or moving across the landscape. It may also remain hidden during the entire safari. Visitors should never ask the driver to chase an animal or move too close to a cave for a photograph.
The Jawai region is also home to other wildlife. Depending on the route and season, you may see crocodiles, peafowl, eagles, owls, langurs, chinkara and waterbirds. You may also see local herders and livestock. Ask permission before photographing local people or private homes.
After the safari, return to the lodge for breakfast and rest. The afternoon is kept free so that you can enjoy the property, read, photograph the hills from an approved location or learn more about the area from the local team.
An evening leopard safari can be added if it is included in your plan and permitted for the travel date. Evening light can be useful for landscape photography, but the drive must follow the current local timing and wildlife rules.
Return to the lodge after the safari and have dinner.
Overnight: Jawai.
Meals: Breakfast if included in the selected accommodation plan.
Day 3: Optional safari and return journey
If you want more time for wildlife viewing, take an optional morning safari before breakfast. This is useful for photographers and travellers who want additional time in Jawai. A third safari may also help you understand the landscape better, although it cannot guarantee a leopard sighting.
Return to the lodge, have breakfast and check out. Your driver will then take you to Udaipur or your next destination.
Return to Udaipur
A Udaipur drop is suitable for travellers continuing their city visit or catching a flight. If you have a flight on the same day, keep enough time for traffic, road delays and rest stops.
Continue to Jodhpur
Jawai can be added between Udaipur and Jodhpur. Continuing to Jodhpur avoids returning along the same route and works well for travellers planning a western Rajasthan itinerary.
You can also request an onward transfer to Mount Abu or another destination, subject to the route and travel time.
Jawai leopard safari experience
Jawai is generally known as a leopard landscape rather than a traditional national park. The area includes granite hills, dry vegetation, water bodies and village surroundings. Leopards move freely through this habitat, so safari routes cannot be treated as fixed sightseeing paths.
The safari is also an opportunity to observe the wider environment. Birds, reptiles, grazing animals and changing light on the hills are all part of the experience. Travellers should be patient and avoid judging the safari only by whether a leopard appears.
Morning safari
Morning safaris usually begin around sunrise. The air is cooler and the light is softer, which can suit photography. The exact time depends on the season and local operator arrangements.
Evening safari
Evening drives take place during the later daylight hours. Temperatures may be more comfortable and the hills can have warm colours. The drive must finish according to current rules and available daylight.
Number of safaris
Two drives are suitable for this 3-day tour. If wildlife photography is your main purpose, add another night and request three or four drives. More safari time improves your opportunity to observe wildlife, but it does not guarantee a leopard sighting.
